A 9-year-old Monroe County boy has died from a drowning incident at a hotel pool in Pocono Township, the Lehigh County coroner’s office said.

The boy from Chestnuthill Township was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. The cause of death was complications from drowning, and the manner was accidental, said Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio in a news release.

Buglio said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the hotel pool at the Days Inn by Wyndham on Hill Motor Lodge Road in Pocono Township. The boy was rescued from the pool and life-saving measures were initiated by bystanders and emergency responders before he was taken to the hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the coroner’s office, Pocono Township police and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, Buglio said in the release.

“We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the child’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him,” Buglio said. “The loss of a child is an unimaginable tragedy that profoundly impacts an entire family and community.”

The child’s identity was not released.
