A beloved Erie staple will be closing this summer. New York Lunch on Peninsula Drive is a place woven into Erie’s daily lunch scene for decades.
The final day of business there is next Friday, July 3rd. The owners say changes with the property mean they can’t stay in the building any longer.
But the community isn’t letting these final days pass quietly. Lines have been stretching out the door.
We spoke with Justin, who started working there as a teenager. He says the place shaped him, and the people inside became family.
He and his staff say they’ve been overwhelmed by the support and are grateful.
“Support was overwhelming. It was overwhelming in the best of ways, without a doubt. We never actually expected that much of a community to come together in such a fast time, in a short time. And there was no downtime. Yesterday was wonderful,” said employee Justin Pytlarz.
But there is good news to this story. They plan to launch a new location. No date has been set, but we’ll share any new information we learn.
