ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — City officials said Thursday the country’s first container-based, 24/7 AI-powered grocery store is now open in Atlanta’s Pittsburgh Yards.
“For far too, long families in this community had to leave their own neighborhood to buy groceries,” Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said.
Nourish + Bloom Market was founded by Jamie and Jilea Hemmings.
“Produce to prepared meals to personal care,” Jilea said about what is offered. “It means that you don’t have to wait in line, and you don’t need any clerks or anybody in the store to shop.”
Dickens, Atlanta City Councilman Antonio Lewis, and representatives from AT&T, who helped make this possible with a small business contest, all joined the founders for the grand opening with one single mission.
“It was about the parents trying to feed their children healthier meals,” Lewis said. “It was about the workers coming home after midnight who still deserve access to groceries.”
The goal is to provide fresh food and essentials to the community, where that wasn’t an option before.
Hemmings said their mission is to eliminate food deserts and provide healthy options.
