An investigation is underway after police said a man was hit and killed by a dump truck in Wilmington, Delaware.
According to Delaware State Police, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, around 10 a.m., a Peterbilt dump truck was stopped at a red light on northbound Brookside Drive, at the intersection of North Maryland Avenue. At the same time, a man was walking westbound on the sidewalk along the eastbound side of North Maryland Avenue, approaching the intersection.
Police said after the traffic signal turned green, the dump truck began making a left turn onto westbound North Maryland Avenue. As the truck was turning, the man walked in front of it and was struck.
The man, a 57-year-old from Wilmington, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The driver of the dump truck, a 47-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, was not injured.
The roadway had been closed for nearly three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
