A two-year-old boy has been hospitalized after, police claim, he was stabbed by his older sister in an incident that happened in Brick Township, New Jersey on Saturday.

According to police, officials have apprehended Marlene Rodriguez, 20, of Brick Township and she has been charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and related offenses after an incident that happened at a home in Brick Township on Saturday afternoon.

Officials said officers responded to a home along Burke Lane in Brick Township at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday to find a two-year-old boy who was suffering from a stab wound to his chest.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital were, officials said, he was listed in stable condition.

An investigation into the incident, officials claim, revealed that the boy had been allegedly stabbed by Rodriguez, his older sister.

Rodriguez, officials said, is being held in police custody at the Ocean County Jail where she was awaiting a detention hearing.
