A 70-year-old Reading-area man was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident on Route 61 near Shoemakersville, authorities said Friday.
Patrick M. Powers lost control of the cruiser-style motorcycle Thursday about 12:40 p.m. while traveling north in the right lane just north of Shoemakersville Road in Perry Township, state police at Hamburg said in a release issued Friday morning.
The bike went off the right shoulder and traveled for about 100 feet up a slight embankment before returning to the roadway and flipping over.
Medics from Northern Berks Ambulance began lifesaving treatment on Powers, who was wearing a helmet, before transporting him to Reading Hospital.
Powers was pronounced dead by a staff physician.
He was 22nd person to die this year as a result of crashes, including three on motorcycles, on Berks roads.
