(WHTM)– There have been 81 measles cases in Pennsylvania so far in 2026, many of which have been in the Midstate.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, four Midstate counties have some of the 81 confirmed measles cases in the state since the start of the year.

York and Dauphin counties have seen fewer cases, with one reported in York and two in Dauphin County since the start of January.

The numbers in Lebanon and Lancaster counties tell a different story. According to the Department of Health, there have been 20 reported cases in Lebanon County since the start of the year, and 38 in Lancaster County.

The numbers for the two make up more than half of the state’s confirmed cases this year. The full list of numbers can be viewed here.

The DOH said that vaccines are the best protection against measles, and most vaccinated people are protected for life from the highly contagious disease. Measles can spread through the air and can live for up to two hours in an airspace after an infected person leaves.
