MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – On June 27, 1778, the iconic Liberty Bell returned to Philadelphia, after the British left the city.
The bell was brought back in a procession to the Pennsylvania State House.
The celebration ended a seven-month stretch where the Liberty Bell was hidden under the floorboards of a church in Allentown, Pennsylvania. That was around 60 miles away from the State House.
Throughout history, the Liberty Bell has run to signify major events in U.S. history, such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The bell has changed locations in Philadelphia multiple times since, most recently moving to the Liberty Bell Center in 2003.
If you won’t find yourself in the City of Brotherly Love soon, you can see a replica of the Liberty Bell inside the rotunda at the state capitol building.
