READING, Pa. – Two individuals involved in the fatal 2022 shooting of a teen in Reading’s Brookline Park will spend decades in prison for their participation in the deadly incident.
Anthony Boria and Henry Madera, Jr. were each sentenced to 23 – 46 years in state prison Tuesday.
During an October bench trial, each were found guilty of third-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, perjury, false swearing and firearms not to be carried without a license. The pair were found not guilty of conspiracy.
On March 14, 2022, authorities received reports of a large fight in Reading’s Brookline Park involving 15 to 30 individuals.
Police arrived to find 18-year-old Amiere Bibbs dead from a gunshot wound. Three other people involved in the fight were shot as well.
The fatal encounter sent shockwaves through the community, including the Governor Mifflin School District where the victims were all students.
Investigators say it started as a fistfight involving students and former students, and once it was over, an exchange of words took place between both sides.
One side of the confrontation, which included Boria and Madera, pulled out guns and fired shots towards the crowd. Investigators recovered a total of 43 shell casings from the scene.
Part of the fight was caught on cellphone video, which police say was a key piece of evidence in identifying the shooters.
Authorities say the two gave false testimony in front of a grand jury, claiming they were nowhere near the park at the time of the shooting.
Julian Evans, who was also charged in the case, is due in court for a status hearing scheduled for January 14.
