Spoon’s Biddy Basketball Camp wrapped up today as the community focuses on building up Erie’s youngest athletes and strengthening local youth leagues. At the Eagles Nest on Pennsylvania Avenue, kids ages five to nine wrapped up their week-long skills camp with an awards ceremony.
Trophies were handed out across all skill areas, but the highlight was the “Heart of a Lion” award. Staff say it goes to the camper who shows discipline, teamwork, and a refusal to give up.
They say continued investment in programs like this keeps kids active, supported, and connected, and helps ensure local leagues stay strong for years to come.
“We give an opportunity for these children to come out and play, offer them support. It’s free, low-fee care. We enjoy helping your kids, to give them a safe place. Marisol Borrero-Velez, a volunteer for Spoon’s Biddy Basketball Camp shared.
“Confidence building, our future in the city of Erie, starting young before the streets grab them, and that’s important to us.” Melvin Withers, a volunteer for Spoon’s Biddy Basketball Camp explained.
