UPPER DARBY, PA – With reverence and joy, the Blessing Service (Agiasmos) for the beginning of the new school year was celebrated at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby, under the Holy Metropolis of New Jersey.
The service was conducted by the Parish Priest and Director of the Greek School, Fr. Alexandros Kaitidis, who extended heartfelt wishes for a blessed and fruitful school year. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of Greek education, language, and faith as a foundation for the lives of the children and the unity of the community.
“St. Demetrios Greek School is blessed with 11 highly qualified and dedicated teachers, who lovingly and faithfully impart the Greek language, history, and culture to the new generation,” Fr. Kaitidis said in a statement. “The presence of students, parents, and teachers was truly moving, as all prayed together for health, enlightenment, and progress.”

Following the service, parents received folders with information for the new academic year and then gathered in the small hall, where registrations took place and everyone enjoyed a lovely treat thoughtfully prepared by the School PTA.
“Our parish expresses its gratitude to all who support the mission of our Greek School, and we pray that this new school year will be filled with growth, creativity, and spiritual blessings for our children and families,” Fr. Kaitidis concluded.
