A 56-year-old Pottstown man was killed in a crash in Amity Township, Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel announced Sunday.

The victim, whose identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin, was the sole occupant of a vehicle that struck a tree in the 1800 block of Old Swede Road at 6:08 a.m. Saturday.

Stitzel said the driver was extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders and transported to Reading Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A deputy coroner was called to the hospital to investigate.

The cause of death is blunt force injuries. The manner has yet to be determined as the coroner’s office and Amity police continue their investigation.

This was the 25th fatality on Berks County roads this year.
