The co-owner of the Lehigh Valley restaurants of Copperhead Grille and Utopita has died.

The Facebook page for Copperhead Grille announced the death of Michael L. Dontas Monday afternoon, calling him a “devoted family member, and cherished friend.”

“More than a business owner, Michael was a friend, mentor, and an integral part of our family business. Touching the lives of our guests, staff, friends, and community through kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to bringing people together,” the restaurant said. “We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. We ask that you continue to keep the Dontas family in your thoughts and prayers as we honor Michael’s life and legacy. His presence will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on so many lives will never be forgotten.”

Dontas and his cousin Michael P. Dontas founded Copperhead Grille in 2002, according to its website. It now operates at 5737 Route 378 in Upper Saucon Township and 1731 Airport Road in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

The sister restaurant Utopita opened in March 2025 at the Bethlehem Village Shoppes at 3650 Nazareth Pike in Bethlehem Township.
