BETHLEHEM, Pa. – It’s shaping up to be a busy and festive week in Northampton County between the World Cup watch parties and Independence Day celebrations.

69 News Reporter Sydney Kay was in Bethlehem with how you can cheer on your team and get ready for fireworks.

Curt Mosel, Chief Operating Officer at ArtsQuest, said the crowds have been great for every World Cup match shown at SteelStacks, especially the U.S. matches. ArtsQuest’s Soccerfest, which kicked off June 11, has been drawing in thousands of people.

Three screens near Levitt Pavilion will show all the World Cup games.

Mosel said people from many different countries have come to SteelStacks to take in the World Cup games.

“The energy’s been unbelievable,” he said.

Mosel said the excitement really starts now, with the World Cup knockout stages beginning. “It’s win or go home,” he said.

The U.S. will play Bosnia and Herzegovina Wednesday at 8 p.m. Mosel recommends coming to SteelStacks early ahead of the match, to guarantee a seat. By 7 p.m. the venue will really start filling in, he said.

A merchandise vendor sells jerseys from every team that’s in the tournament. ArtsQuest is selling “America 250” shirts and other gear, as well as Bethlehem Steel merch.

Cory Stevens, Executive Director of the Levitt Pavilion at SteelStacks, said ArtsQuest has been trying to pair its programming with Soccerfest. When Mexico was in a World Cup match, a Selena tribute band played. When Germany was in a soccer game, the Pittsburgh band The Polkamaniacs took the stage.

ArtsQuest will kick off its 4th of July celebration on Friday with the U.S. Field Army Band and Soldiers Chorus at the Musikfest Cafe at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, July 4 ArtsQuest has a double header: The Allentown Band plays at 5:30 pm., and a Bruce Springsteen show will take place outside at 8:30 p.m.

He said events that happen during periods where it’s very hot outside will take place in climate-controlled rooms inside.
