ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Due to the Extreme Heat Warning in effect from Wednesday through Saturday, the City of Allentown will open cooling stations operated by the Allentown Fire Department.
In a news release, the City says the stations will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, July 1st and 2nd.
Officials say cooling stations will open at Roosevelt Park and Jordan Park on Wednesday, with an additional station opening at Franklin Park on Thursday, to provide relief for park-goers who do not have access to a pool or spray park.

Other City resources available include the municipal pools at Cedar Beach, Mack, and Irving, which will be open from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m, and 4 p.m. to 7.p.m. The release says the spray parks at Bucky Boyle, Clyde E. Bosket Sr, and the Old Allentown Fairgrounds will also be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors with air-conditioning if possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Extra precautions should be taken for young children, older adults, and pets. Do not leave children or pets in unattended cars for any amount of time.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. For heat strokes, heat-related, as well as other non-heat related emergencies, please call 911.
The City also reminds people that City ordinance prohibits people from swimming or bathing in creeks or waterways within City parks, which presents both maintenance and safety concerns.
