In tonight’s Health Beat, we’re exploring how extreme heat can cause a spike in visits to the emergency room.

The CDC says heat exposure is one of the leading causes of weather-related deaths, so it’s important to recognize the warning signs early.

Symptoms may include headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, among others.

Doctors say if you go outside, avoid the hottest times of the day, stay hydrated, and wear light-colored, loose clothing.

If you start to feel sick, go somewhere cool and change into dry clothes.

And if you think you or someone you know is suffering a heat-related emergency, call 911 right away.
