Christopher Ross Doherty
OBITUARY
Christopher Ross Doherty, 78, entered into eternal rest on June 29, 2026, at his residence.
Born on January 22, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, to the late Lawrence and Eleanor Doherty, Christopher was a graduate of Holliston High School and the University of Scranton. On July 9, 1977, he married the love of his life, Loretta, and together they celebrated nearly 49 years of marriage.
Prior to his retirement, which he thoroughly enjoyed, Christopher was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Case Manager in the Welfare Department
Christopher never encountered a meal he didn’t cherish, and he never met a stranger he wouldn’t talk to as though they were a lifelong friend. A former Scoutmaster, he was a man of many interests, ranging from playing in a jug band to tinkering with his home weather station. He embraced life and always found joy in his hobbies. On Friday nights, he could often be found making his famous homemade pizza, followed by a bongo drum performance for family and friends.
Christopher was an extremely proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War era. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. During his retirement, he proudly served as Adjutant of Hricak-McAndrew American Legion Post 869, where he treasured the friendships and camaraderie of his Legion family.
Christopher was an avid sports fan. Although he faithfully cheered on the Pittsburgh Pirates despite years of disappointment, he found much greater success rooting for his beloved hockey teams. He was a longtime season ticket holder for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins. His love of baseball led to many memorable family trips across the country to watch the Pirates play – memories his family will always treasure.
Christopher also loved to travel. In 2024, he and Loretta took the trip of a lifetime to France, fulfilling a lifelong dream and creating memories they would cherish forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 48 years, Loretta Doherty; his brother, Clifford Doherty and wife, Rhonda; his sisters, Cindy McGarrahan and husband, John, and Carol Doherty Jason and husband, Bob; his sons, Patrick Doherty and Tom Doherty and wife, Patty; his daughters, Coleen Doherty and Eileen Police and husband, Daniel; his nieces, Brittany Doherty, Lexi Jason, and Brianna Jason; his nephew, Brian McGarrahan; and, most especially, his beloved grandchildren, Connor and Meghan Doherty, and Cozette, Scarlett, and Carson Police.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during calling hours on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N Main St, Archbald PA 18403.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1101 Willow St, Peckville PA 18452.
