Allentown City Council has postponed a meeting to appoint a new interim city controller and reopened the window to apply for the position.

The meeting, set for July 1, was scheduled shortly after the death of former Controller Jeff Glazier on May 26. He was 69, and had served as the city’s controller since 2016. His term was set to expire in 2028.

According to a news release from the city, the meeting was postponed because of scheduling conflicts for City Council members.

The city controller is an elected office independent from both City Council and the city administration, and acts as a watchdog over the city’s finances. The controller is responsible for reviewing all city expenditures and its annual budget, preparing audits of city departments and investigating financial losses or alleged mismanagement.

The meeting will be rescheduled for some time in August. Because of the delay, Allentown has also extended the application deadline until Aug. 17. Qualified applicants must be registered Democrats for at least 30 days prior to May 27, and should submit a resume and statement listing the value they bring to the city controller position to Deputy City Clerk Tawanna Whitehead at Tawanna.Whitehead@Allentownpa.gov.

According to the original July 1 meeting agenda, two people have applied for the position: Evette D’Amore, an Allentown School Board member and office manager at EG Electric, and Patrick Palmer, a member experience associate at First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union and former Allentown School Board member.
