The Sight Center of Northwest Pennsylvania is expanding its efforts to address diabetes and related health disparities across Erie, thanks to new funding from Diverse Erie’s Generational Impact initiative.
The grant will allow the organization to bring culturally grounded, community-driven programming directly into neighborhoods that face a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The initiative focuses on helping residents build healthier eating habits, prevent chronic disease, and protect long-term wellness including preserving vision.
The Sight Center is partnering with the Erie County’s Blasco Library to make programs more accessible. The library’s central location and commitment to inclusive programming provide an ideal setting for community-based health education.
Together, the organizations will host a Diabetes Prevention Discovery Session on July 7, at 10:30 a.m. in Room 219 of the Blasco Library, located at 160 East Front Street in Erie.
The session will introduce participants to practical ways to reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes, including guidance on nutrition, blood sugar management, and overall wellness. Attendees will also learn how to enroll in the free, yearlong NDPP program, which offers continued support and education.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to expand diabetes prevention resources across Erie, working with local partners to empower residents to make healthier choices and improve long-term outcomes for generations to come.
