An 80-year-old Bern Township man was killed when a tree limb fell on him while he was cutting it, Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel said Wednesday.
Donald P. Glass was pronounced dead at 5:53 p.m. Tuesday by a deputy coroner at the scene of the accident in the backyard of his residence in the 1000 block of Mahlon Drive.
He died of blunt force trauma and traumatic asphyxiation, and the manner of death has been ruled accidental, Stitzel said.
Emergency responders were called to the scene about 5 p.m.
The investigation determined Glass was using a pole saw while standing on a ladder when a tree limb fell and struck him, causing him and the ladder to fall to the ground.
