The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is stepping up patrols on the state’s rivers and lakes during the holiday weekend to combat impaired boating. From July 3 through July 5, the agency will conduct “Operation Dry Water,” an initiative aimed at identifying boaters under the influence.Officials are reminding the public that the blood-alcohol content threshold for boating is the same as for driving—0.08 or higher—which could result in charges. “Everyone will be getting to and from a boat by way of a vehicle on a highway. Not only should we be aware of the hazards of boating while operating impaired, but that can also start on the highways before you get to the water, and can carry over after enjoying a day on the water,” Tom Koebley, Regional DUI Program Coordinator, said. The agency also reminds boaters that Coast Guard-approved life jackets are required on the water.
