Jordan Vescovi twirled a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts Wednesday as Green Ridge captured the District 32 9-10-11 baseball championship with a 17-0, four-inning win over Wallenpaupack.
Vescovi also helped his cause with two hits, including a triple.
Patrick Tunney led Green Ridge with three hits, while Alex Cantafio and Jimmy Haggerty each contributed two hits. Haggerty finished with five RBIs, while Cantafio, Tunney and Will Mackrell knocked in two runs apiece.
Greg Foster, Elijah Horvath and Wyatt Ellefson had the hits for Wallenpaupack.
District 32 Majors Baseball
At Benton, Carbondale used a three-run fifth-inning to rally past Wayne Highlands, 5-3, in a District 32 Majors Baseball pool play game Wednesday.
Jadryan Serrano had an RBI double and Jacoby Vaughn had an RBI single in the fifth for Carbondale, who finishes pool play with a 3-1 record.
Starting pitcher Gavin Baron and Reed Lesjack, who got the win in relief, each struck out four for Carbondale.
Jackson Latourette and Tanner Yanacek each had two hits for Wayne Highlands, while Elliot Randolph doubled.
Carbino Club/Archbald 9, Christy Mathewson 1: At Benton, Elio Brunori had a three-run home run in an eight-run first inning as Carbino Club/Archbald rolled in pool play. Both teams advanced to the double elimination round of the tournament.
Mason Buczynski had two hits, including a double, and Enzo Nicastro had two RBIs for CCA.
Cooper Hickok, Luke Griggs and Blake Thomas had hits for Christy Mathewson.
District 17 Majors Baseball
At East Scranton, Joneal Duarte, Christopher Kulick and Julian Peters had two hits apiece as North/East/Connell downed Abington White, 9-5, in District 17 Majors Baseball pool play.
Peters had three RBIs and Kulick had two RBIs for the winners and Colby Davis doubled. Owen Wahlers struck out eight in five innings.
Preston Grebb singled and doubled for Abington White. Peter Adair tripled, while Partick Dean, Liam Hiller, Jack Foley and Grayden Kane each singled.
Abington Blue 12, North Pocono 0: At East Scranton, winning pitcher Jaxon Hizny struck out 11 in five innings as Abington Blue blanked North Pocono in pool play.
Hizny, Bradey Bleich, Owen Walsh, Evan Ross and Max Shursky all had two hits for the winners. One of Shursky’s hits was a home run. Carson Walsh, Vincie Pricci, Declan Grady, Billy Dempsey and Bradley McDonald had one hit each.
For North Pocono, Bo West and Jason Sheehan each had one hit.
West Scranton 10, Dingman Delaware 0 (4 inn.): At West Scranton, winning pitcher Luke Collins allowed two hits and struck out 11 in four innings in the host team’s win in pool play.
Collins also doubled, as did Cullen Kopa. Mark D’Augostine, Jack Schalk and Kopa each had one RBI.
District 17 9-10-11 baseball
At North Pocono, winning pitcher Andrew Kokindo struck out eight and allowed one run and five hits in 5.1 innings as Dunmore beat Moosic, 3-1, in District 17 9-10-11 baseball pool play.
Mason O’Malley came on to get the final two outs and record the save. O’Malley also had two hits.
James Hart had two hits and one RBI for Dunmore. Tanner Hill and Oliver Mecca each added one hit and one RBI and Owen Krzywicki chipped in one hit.
Kai Hermanson doubled for Moosic. Grayson Lindsay had one hit and one RBI, while Mitchell Linck, Nathan Trolio and Luke Brennan each added one hit.
North Pocono 10, Connell/East/Jefferson 0 (4 inn.): At North Pocono, August Nealon singled, doubled and drove in four runs to power the home team to its pool-play win.
Emmett Bryan doubled for North Pocono. Anthony Clark and Declan Rogan had one hit each, while Dom Trubiano, Hunter Brunson and Everett Lenzer had one RBI apiece. Clark and Nealon combined on a one-hit shutout.
Aali Muhammad had the lone hit for Connell/East/Jefferson.
Section 5 Majors Softball
At Carbino Club, it was a total team effort as 11 of the 12 Pittston batters recorded hits and the District 31 champ remained alive in the Section 5 Major softball tournament with a 16-5 win over North Pocono in four innings.
All games in the tournament are being played in Jessup.
Pittston continues on in the elimination bracket and will face off with Mountain Top on Thursday. The winner advances to the championship series against defending sectional champ Carbino Club/Archbald/Moosic that begins Friday. CCA beat Mountain Top, 2-0, on Wednesday in the winner’s bracket final.
Hannah Beekman went 2 for 2 with a single, double, walk and four RBIs. Sophia Kapish and Natalie Lambert each had two singles and two RBIs, and Sadie Bomber and Ava Basile each drove in two.
In all, Pittston scored 16 runs on 15 hits.
Andrea Colon pitched four innings, striking out six and allowing two earned runs.
Payton Schmidt led North Pocono with a single, triple and one RBI.
