As America reaches 250, some fireworks will take on an extra sparkle. We’ve come a long way from the cannon fire and gun salutes of 1776.
Here is where you can see fireworks. Almost all come with other festivities, such as the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, and parades elsewhere.

Lackawanna County
The Scrantastic Spectacular is Friday in Courthouse Square. Bands and family-friendly activities start at 4 p.m. There will be food, games, bounce houses and face painting. Tennessee-based country music singer Shane Profitt performs at 6 p.m. His single “How It Oughta Be” reached number 16 on the Billboard Country Airplay list in 2023. He is currently touring with Luke Bryan. The entire Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and soprano Jessica Leigh will perform patriotic favorites at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Zambelli Fireworks display. The launch site is atop the Linden Street garage, above Catch 21. The website scrantasticspectacular.com has a map of viewing locations and more details.
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders minor league baseball team often has postgame fireworks at their Moosic stadium. There are shows after the games against the Norfolk Tides on Thursday and Friday. The Saturday postgame show is billed as an ”extended fireworks extravaganza,” and customers who buy an Independence Day package can go onto the field to watch.
The Abingtons celebrate in a new location. The Rotary Club of the Abingtons’ 40th celebration is Friday at Hillside Park, 1188 Winola Road, South Abington Twp. Parking opens at 5 p.m. and is $10 per vehicle. The park has two playgrounds, and the show starts at dusk.
The Carbondale City Hall fireworks are Thursday at 9:30.
Jessup celebrates both its 150th anniversary and America’s 250th on Sunday with an event at Veteran’s Memorial Field that begins at 2:30 p.m. The fireworks will start at dusk. A parade will march earlier.
Old Forge already held its fireworks show.
The Olyphant fireworks are not until July 11 from 5 p.m. to dusk at Condella Park. Look for food trucks and a performance by the Kelly Patrick Dance Studio at 6 p.m. The splash pad will be open.
North Pocono’s Annual Fireworks Extravaganza is Thursday at the North Pocono Football Stadium. The gates open at 6 p.m. The rain date is Monday.
Luzerne County
Hazleton has two big celebrations.
The holiday starts with a bang — but no fireworks — on Friday with the Paul and Lisa DeAngelo Family Foundation annual Independence Day Festival. It runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in City View Park. It will feature music, races and walks, crafts for kids, a video game trailer, an obstacle course and a long list of other activities. Admission, parking and many features are free. The foundation donates revenue from things such as raffle baskets and race fees to local causes such as the autism community, youth sports, disabled veterans and cancer initiatives.
The city of Hazleton handles the fireworks at its own festival on Sunday at City View Park. Savannah Klingerman will perform before Kartune plays for dancing. The food vendors include the Diamond Fire Company, serving drinks to those 21 and over. It runs from 4 to 11 p.m. with fireworks at 9:45.
“This is our biggest event of the year,” said Ali McKittrick, director of the Hazleton Parks & Recreation Department.
Wilkes-Barre’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration is Saturday at Kirby Park from noon to 10 p.m. For the first time in nearly a decade, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic concert and fireworks accompaniment will include the entire orchestra. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will also feature soprano Jessica Leigh.
Harveys Lake celebrates with a full weekend of patriotic activities. The fireworks display is over the lake after dusk on Friday. The parade is Saturday at 1 p.m.
Also on Saturday, the Hometown Heroes Parade steps off from Old Carverton Road in Kingston Twp. at 4 p.m. It travels Route 309 and will arrive at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds around 5. That’s where the big celebration will be, from 4 to 10.
Nanticoke’s fireworks were held previously.
Wright Twp. Fireworks & Celebration starts at 3 p.m. Friday at Wright Twp. Recreation Park. The fireworks will begin around 9:10.
Schuylkill County
Pottsville’s big fireworks show was last weekend. But there are fireworks at the Big Diamond Speedway in Cass Twp. after the race on Friday.
Frackville’s celebration of its 150th anniversary and America250 began last week and will culminate in fireworks Friday at dusk at the Frackville High Street Complex. The rain date is Sunday.
Orwigsburg’s fireworks are at dusk on Saturday.
Port Carbon begins the Fourth of July with a race and a 10 a.m. parade and culminates with fireworks around 9:30 p.m. at the Francis E. Lubinsky Playground.
Schuylkill Haven and St. Clair both celebrate on July 11.
