A Pennsylvania state trooper was killed after being struck by a commercial vehicle along a highway in Schuylkill County.
According to state police, the incident occurred Wednesday morning on Interstate 81 in Cass Township. The trooper was conducting a commercial vehicle safety inspection at the time of the incident.
While the inspection was underway, investigators say another commercial vehicle traveling along the highway struck the trooper. After hitting the trooper, that same vehicle then collided with the truck that was being inspected.
The trooper was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the trooper’s identity.
The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine exactly what led to the incident.
State police are reminding drivers to remain alert and use caution when approaching emergency personnel or stopped vehicles along roadways, emphasizing the importance of slowing down and moving over whenever possible to prevent tragedies like this.
