SALISBURY TWP., Pa. – The body of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Pahira is headed home Thursday afternoon, after departing from Lehigh County.
The procession comes one day after the trooper was struck and killed while conducting a commercial vehicle safety inspection on Interstate 81.
The procession departed from Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township around noon.
It is a very solemn day for law enforcement as they escort a fellow brother to a funeral home in Schuylkill County. A long line of law enforcement vehicles carried Trooper Michael Pahira to his final resting place.
Pahira was killed after he was conducting a commercial safety inspection on the side of the road in Cass Township Shuylkill County. Pahira was hit Wednesday morning by an out of state tractor trailer, driven by a Massachusetts man, who is now charged with vehicular homicide.
The procession carrying his body left Lehigh Valley Hospital Jefferson’s Cedar Crest, taking I-78 West through Lehigh and Berks counties to Route 61 North into Schuylkill County.
The procession’s final stop is the Sullivan Funeral Home in Frackville.
The procession was expected to take just over an hour.
