CHAMBERSBURG – This week, the United States Supreme Court held up the ban on transgender athletes participating in women’s sports for the states that had the legislation already on the books.

SCOTUS said it was legal to do it.

In Pennsylvania, Senator Judy Ward reintroduced the Save Women’s Sports Act in April to the Pennsylvania Senate and the measure passed the chamber.

It moved onto the PA House for action, but it has been in committee this whole time.

The Save Women’s Sport Act would require scholastic sports teams to be designated based on biological sex – so biological men (who identify as a female) couldn’t play on the same team as biological women.

With SCOTUS giving the greenlight to other legislation, why wouldn’t PA pass this one?

PA Representative Rob Kauffman insisted, “After the US Supreme Court decision that said that if you’re going to protect women in their sports, their Title IX sports, this is the way to do it. Do it through legislation, do it at the state level, and we have been attempting this time and time again. They said, oh, it’s unconstitutional, and oh no, it violates tight Title IX. Oh no, you can’t do this, you can’t do that. Well, the Supreme Court said so, and the day after the Supreme Court said so, we are shuffling that bill from committee to committee again to avoid an up or down vote in the full House.”

Michele Jansen of News Talk 103.7FM said, “Meanwhile they keep trying to press legislation, so that Pennsylvania will add, and I don’t even understand how, and I think the Supreme Court gave you some good defenses against it, LGBTQ plus AI, whatever, to civil rights in Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court just laid out why that is not going to be a good constitutional measure.”

Pat Ryan of News Talk 103.7FM noted, “You’re asking for the leader of the House of the in Harrisburg to actually do her job to understand the law instead of getting on her knees and at the altar of such a very, very small group of people.”

Kauffman said, “But that is the small minutia of folks that they cater to on a daily basis in Harrisburg. I mean, I’ve even had Democrat members who said to me, why don’t we just vote this, I’m fine, let’s just vote this thing up or down vote, but their leadership caters to that small group of folks, and they are told no, we’re not voting this up or down, you just pass it back and forth from committee to committee.”

Ryan said, “That’s the best of the party, that’s who they put in charge in the House of Representatives in Harrisburg.”

“She’s the rising star,” Kauffman confirmed.
