LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – As severe weather swept through parts of northeast Ohio Friday night, four kayakers were caught in the storms in Lake Erie.
The Lorain Port and Finance Authority reported kayakers were trapped in the harbor at 8:00 p.m.
The Lorain Lighthouse Camera captured the moment.
The Lorain Police Department’s Marine Patrol battled the high winds and rough water to rescue the kayakers.
Lorain police said Officers Riggs and Tavenner rescued all four kayakers and brought them to shore.
Police shared a video of the rescue on social media.
The department added that it wanted the incident to be a reminder of how weather conditions on the lake can change quickly, especially during the holidays.
Police asked anyone who may be heading out on the water to check the forecast before they go.
