Kenedy Corona scored on Enoli Paredes’ wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the RailRiders defeated Norfolk, 3-2, on Friday at PNC Field.
With the game tied at 2, Corona led off the seventh with a triple on a liner to center. After Owen Cobb popped out, Corona scored on a wild pitch to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 3-2 lead.
The bullpen locked in from there, as Kervin Castro struck out two in the eighth and Danny Watson struck out one in the ninth and secured his second save. Winning pitcher Rafael Montero allowed one hit and one walk and struck out one in the seventh. Will Brian pitched 2.1 shutout innings, allowing no hits and no walks and striking out three, as the bullpen pitched 5.1 shutout innings and allowed one hit.
Alexander Cornielle started for the RailRiders (6-4 second half, 43-41 overall), pitching 3.2 innings, allowing four hits and two runs, walking three and striking out three.
In the bottom of the first, Cobb hit an RBI double to left, and Jonathan Ornelas hit an RBI single to left to give the RailRiders a 2-0 lead.
Norfolk (2-8, 30-55) answered in the top of the fourth, as Jose Barrero hit an RBI single to left and Bryan Ramos had an RBI groundout to tie the game at 2.
The series continues Saturday at 6:35 p.m. with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Kyle Carr (6-5 overall, 4.32 ERA) and Norfolk’s Nestor German (3-3, 4.79) the probable pitchers.
