OBITUARY
Daniel Charles Cummings, 58, a native son of Dunmore, Pennsylvania, passed away June 28, 2026.
Born in Dunmore to the late Thomas P. Cummings Sr. and Marie E. (Gilligan) Cummings, Dan grew up as part of a large, close-knit family known for its strong ties to the community and emphasis on education and service. He was a proud graduate of the University of Scranton (Class of 1990, BA and Class of 1991, MA in History), becoming the seventh of his siblings to earn degrees from the University of Scranton.
Dan later made his home in the Arlington, Virginia area, dedicating his life as a teacher, mentor and coach of high school students in the National Capital Region. He is remembered as a dedicated family member, teacher and friend.
He shared in the professional and personal achievements of his accomplished siblings, including attorneys, a physician, and others in public service.
He is survived by his siblings: Atty Thomas P. Cummings Jr. of Madison Township; Atty Patrick J. Cummings and wife Margi of Roaring Brook Township, COL James F. Cummings, M.D., and wife Julia M. of Chevy Chase, MD; and Ellen C. Dermody and husband George T. of Elmhurst, a sister-in-law. Lisa Cummings of Mount Cobb, and a brother-in-law Christopher Morris of Lansdowne. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who cherished his presence in their lives.
Predeceased by his parents, brother Timothy T. Cummings, CLU/CFP and sister Atty Catherine C. Morris, Dan will be remembered for his connection to his Dunmore roots and the values instilled by his family – faith, education, and loyalty to loved ones.
The family extends the greatest thanks and appreciation to the Hospice of The Sacred Heart for the magnificent care provided to Dan with dignity and unyielding compassion in his final hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Eulalia’s Catholic Church in Roaring Brook Township, PA on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 Williams St, Dunmore PA.18510.
