A Whitehall Township man with a history of drug trafficking will spend the rest of his life behind bars for delivering a fatal dose of fentanyl to a 38-year-old woman in East Stroudsburg in 2023.

Dimitris Smith Jr., 48, was also sentenced to two years in a federal prison for violating the conditions of his parole at the time of the crime.

District Judge Karoline Mehalchick sentenced Smith on Wednesday. He was convicted in January following a five-day trial in which Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jenny P. Roberts and Patrick Bannon called 32 witnesses, including experts in forensic pathology, forensic toxicology, serology DNA profiling, forensic chemistry and historical cell site data.

The jury heard witness testimony and saw the woman’s cellphone data and text messages, as well as DNA evidence from the crime scene, and CashApp payment records as proof that Smith supplied the fentanyl that killed the woman.

The case was Smith’s third federal drug trafficking conviction, according to a statement from federal prosecutors.
