Crews quickly contained a fire in the kitchen of a home in Muhlenberg Township Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m. at a two-story home in the 1000 block of Bowman Street.

Initial reports said someone may have been trapped, but the owner of the house later contacted firefighters to note that they were not there but were aware of a fire alarm and smoke in the kitchen.

The crews quickly entered and stretched a line, knocking down the bulk of the fire within minutes.

The fire reportedly started in the oven, with moderate amounts of smoke spreading throughout the home.

Crews said the fire didn’t spread into the walls. Searches of the building were negative.

Firefighters said they were venting the building and removing the gas stove. Trucks that had yet to reach the scene were recalled.
