ALLENTOWN, Pa. – “I was not expecting this this morning. Not at all,” said Amanda Hansen. Because what greeted the hospital manager when she walked into work was complete darkness, “The keypad didn’t work and that was the end of that.”
Maple Hills Veterinary Hospital has been without power since early morning, “….and went into modes of just seeing what we can do to get everybody where they could be safe,” said Hansen.
Staff had to immediately shut down everything.
“Everything has been interrupted,” said Hansen. “Literally our entire function has not gone past the front door.”
And find a place to move their animals.
“First thing was calling our sister company to make sure that we could get them moved,” said Hansen.
Staff had to take home thousands of dollars of medical supplies.
“Everything that needs to be refrigerated… Medications, all of our injectables, all are down at my house in the fridge and freezer, because we want to protect them,” Hansen explained.
They had to cancel procedures and even turn people away.
“We were supposed to have surgery this morning,” said Hansen. “All the daycares that showed up this morning, we had to, you know, tell them we couldn’t do it, which interferes with their life as well.”
Staff loaded up all the animals to send to Lehigh Valley Animal Hospital, forced to pack up and move their entire practice.
“Until the power comes back on, I guess we’re gonna be living over there for now,” said Hansen.
