BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Two people were seriously injured after hitting a bridge on the PA Turnpike in Bedford County, according to state police.
The crash happened in Napier Township on the Turnpike between mile markers 138.1 and 138.2 and involved two Freightliners.
According to troopers, a Freightliner was legally parked on the shoulder with its hazard lights flashing when a second Freightliner, traveling west, side-swiped it. This caused the second Freightliner to begin to lose control and drive off the roadway into the grass before hitting a bridge abutment.
First responders had to pull the female driver and male passenger, both from Grove City, from the wreckage. They were rushed to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center with trauma injuries.
The driver and passenger in the parked Freightliner reported no injuries.
