Delaware woman sentenced to up to 4 years for Salisbury Township bank robbery
I’m Tasmin Mafu and News 8’s Michael Fuller live in Mannheim Township where some homes have been condemned following the storms. Yeah, we’ll check in with him shortly. We continue to monitor the weather as well as the cleanup continues around the Susquenna Valley. Yeah, for more on that, let’s send it right over to meteorologist Mike Susko. Mike, yeah, good afternoon guys. We are not only going to be seeing some quiet weather tomorrow, but another chance for storms as we go into Thursday. In fact, Thursday, offering the best chance for some scat. Showers and thunderstorms here within the next couple of days. Some of that could be locally heavy rain as well as some gusty winds. Here’s *** look at the 3 day forecast here. You can see that tomorrow will be *** fairly quieter day. I do think we’ll see *** spotty shower Wednesday afternoon for parts of our western communities, uh, west of the Susquehanna River, but Thursday we will have to watch for some showers and thunderstorms. Already starting to see *** marginal risk starting to creep into parts of the area for that. As we go into the convective outlook there from the storm Prediction Center, the main concern will be straight line winds again. Here’s *** look outside Gettysburg. Plenty of clouds across the area. It’s *** fairly cool day when you take into account the temperatures. Keep in mind we should be in the upper 80s this time of year and we’re in the upper 70s to low 80s across the board here on this map. 77 in Lebanon, 80 in Camp Hill, 79 in Shippensburg, 78. For Lancaster 79 in York, storm team live radar network showing *** few spotty showers there in parts of Franklin, Cumberland, and Adams County as expected as we will go into the next couple of hours, but otherwise mostly cloudy, I think for the rest of this evening. Here is *** look at the 24 hour forecast. You can see we’ll keep those rain icons around for parts of this evening. Then we will also see *** spy shower chance tomorrow afternoon, but it does look like the majority of your Wednesday. Dry. Like I said, this me and Jerry, does appear that Thursday is the best chance for some more storms. All right, Mike, thank you. Breaking right now in Dolphin County, the coroner was at *** river rescue in Dolphin County today. Our crews saw Harrisburg Bureau of Fire river utility boat bring *** body back onto the shore. News eight’s AJ Sisson is live at the Steelton boat launch, and AJ, you saw the rescue come to an end. Yeah, Jerry, trust me, and I actually saw the recovery boat pull onto shore just over here, and I’m going to give you *** warning. Some of the details and some of the pictures you may see along with this story may be disturbing to see or hear, but all of this happened right here at the Steelton boat launch on the border of Highspire and Steelton Boroughs, and we actually spoke to the man who called 911. Now Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterlein tells me that this rescue happened near Elliott Street in Harrisburg City and used this boat launch as the closest way to get there. And the man who called 911, he goes by Kyle Riegel. He lives in Palmmyra in Lebanon County and says that this stretch of the Susquehanna River is one of his favorite to fish. And around 11:30 this morning after. 5 hours of fishing, he says on the east bank of the river he saw what he thought looked like rusted over barrels or scrap metal, and as he got closer, he said there was *** distinct smell and saw crayfish all around *** body. Riegel says it took crews about 1 hour to come to the boat launch, find him on the river, and retrieve the body to shore. The police showed up first. They were the first call, the only call I made. Um, when I called them, they made me stay where I was at, so I just anchored up and hung around the body, you know, I didn’t get close to it. I mean those boys know what they’re doing. They’re, they’re very good at what they do, um, but I would just say to, to be safe, it can happen to anybody just like that. Regel says that he spotted the body just upstream of this boat launch that’s around 3 to 4 miles north of the Steelton boat launch. That’s where Elliott Street is. Now Harrisburg Fire and police responded, as well as the Dauphin County coroner. Harrisburg police said that they are investigating but are withholding any additional details until an autopsy is complete at the Steelton boat launch. AJ Sisson, WGAL News. So today the York City police commissioner hosting *** community meeting to address the lingering questions after *** video last month involving an officer and *** dog. The officer was placed on leave after shooting *** dog while responding to *** call, hurting the dog’s owner in the process. The York County District attorney later ruled that shooting justified. So we want to go live out to News eight’s Marcy Walsh, who was at that meeting today. And Morrisy, walk us through what happened. This means this meeting today was full of community members and stakeholders as well as local leaders. Today, Police Commissioner Michael Woodreau was able to give *** little bit more context into what happened on West Philadelphia Street on that day beyond what police initially released, as well as the DA’s office, as well as videos that were posted on social media. He also gave *** look at that body cam footage which we were able to see today. In the body camera footage, you can hear *** dog barking when the officer knocks on the door. There is no answer, and the officer goes outside to take some more photos and talk to the dispatcher. He then knocks again. The dog is still barking, and as the officer is walking away, you can hear someone asking, Who is it in the background. The officer is just about out the door when the apartment door behind him opens up and the dog charges out, chasing after the officer, growling and barking. The officer ran away and then 3 shots rang out in quick succession. Commissioner Mulroe said 1 shot ricocheted into the leg of the dog’s owner, who came out of the apartment after the dog, and the officer immediately went to put *** tourniquet on the man’s leg and called for backup. Moments like these and doing difficult work like this are important, not to change people’s minds. They’re important because I believe that this community who you represent. Deserves an explanation. Simply put That’s why we do things like this. Because we should, we have *** difficult job and we do have authorities and things we have to do, but we also need to be able to explain that. To the community that we’re dealing with, we need to be able to explain that to our public. Commissioner Mulreau also addressed the question of could this situation have been handled differently, like with *** taser or pepper spray. In short, Mulreau said tasers are not meant for small beings like dogs, as the two prongs need to be engaged for it to be effective. He said pepper spray does not have *** good likelihood of stopping an enraged animal. York County District Attorney Tim Barker did rule the shooting thoroughly justified last month. A Delaware woman has been sentenced to two to four years in state prison after pleading guilty to robbing a Salisbury Township bank and stealing nearly $3,000. View News 8 headlines in the video player above. Judge Dennis Reinaker sentenced Kesha Denine Walker, 50, of Wilmington, on June 25. Walker had pleaded guilty in March to one count each of robbery, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property. Surveillance footage showed her wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves as she handed the teller a note demanding cash and claiming she had a gun. After the teller handed over the money, Walker fled the scene. Investigators identified Walker by tracing her vehicle, which had Delaware license plates and was spotted in Chester County shortly after the robbery.Police determined that only 12 vehicles registered in Delaware matched the make and model of the car Walker was driving. A side-by-side comparison of Walker’s driver’s license photo and surveillance images from the bank showed a strong resemblance. In September 2023, Walker committed a similar robbery at a bank in Delaware County. She was arrested less than 24 hours later and admitted to police that she wanted the money to play slot machines at a Delaware casino. She also confessed to the Salisbury Township robbery. As part of her sentence, Walker is banned from the bank where the Salisbury Township robbery occurred.
