A 31-year-old Reading man has been arrested and charged with rape of a child after, police claim, officials received numerous reports alleging that he sexually assaulted a seven-year-old boy.

According to police, Matthew Anoka, 31, of Reading, was arrested on Tuesday at his home in Reading and he has been charged with rape of a child, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor and related offenses following an investigation that began in May.

Police said Anoka’s arrest came after investigators received “multiple” referrals from the state’s Department of Human Services that claimed Anoka had sexually abused a seven-year-old boy.

Following an investigation, police say the victim told officials Anoka sexually abused him and showed him explicit pictures and videos.

Police said the abuse allegedly occurred in April at a property in Kenhorst Borough, in Berks County.

Anoka was arrested at his Reading home on Tuesday and, officials said, he is being held at the Berks County Jail after being denied bail.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 20, 2026.
