An Erie man was fatally shot Tuesday evening in what police have described as a targeted attack within the 1100 block of 11th Street.
According to the Erie Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on July 7 while the victim was sitting inside his vehicle outside the club.
The suspect approached the vehicle and fired multiple rounds through the front windshield. The victim then accelerated his vehicle toward the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle, resulting in a collision. Police stated that the suspect then fired several additional rounds into the vehicle.
Despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds, the victim managed to drive roughly one block away before coming to a stop near East 10th Street and Brandes Avenue. Emergency responders arrived at the scene; the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities have classified the shooting as a targeted incident and said the victim and suspect knew each other prior to the attack.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police currently have one individual in custody but are continuing to search for additional persons of interest who may have been involved in the incident.
Detectives have recovered a large amount of surveillance footage from the area, including recordings from several nearby cameras. Numerous witnesses were also present at the scene.
