The Berks County Field of Heroes drew many visitors to the Wyomissing Stone House pond during the June 29-July 6 display.
The West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club’s display featured more than 250 American flags carrying medallions that honored stories of service in the military, local emergency response, education, health care, community leaders and more. The display is presented in conjunction with the Wyomissing parks and recreation department.
A July 2 ceremony featured speeches from local officials and community leaders. Participants included the Berks County Sheriff’s Honor Guard, Will Tobin of the Berks County Department of Veterans Affairs, military representatives in dress uniform posting all six service flags, the Hero Brass Ensemble, Brandywine Colonials Fife & Drum Corps and the 1st Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental Line.
The event also featured the 1776 Steps Mental Health & Wellness Walk along with resource information tables.
“The primary purpose of the Field of Heroes is to bring our community together to honor the heroes in our lives, share what Rotary does and raise funds that the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club uses to make a positive impact on various community service projects and initiatives,” Rotary Club President James Milham said.
