SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY(WBRE/WYOU) — In Scranton, the Recovery Bank provides peer-to-peer support to people struggling with addiction. The bank is led by Frank Bolock, who has been sober for more than 40 years after battling alcohol addiction.

“I’ve had the benefit of lots of help in terms of getting stopped. And from people in recovery helping me to stay stopped.”

On Tuesday, the recovery bank received a $112,000 investment from the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. The grant builds on the commonwealth’s continued support, which, Bolock says, has helped the recovery bank double the number of people it serves each month.

“The commonwealth’s investment in our community really pays dividends, I think, in terms of people getting their feet under them in terms of recovery. Learning some recovery skills here, some life skills.”

This month marks seven years since the recovery bank opened in 2019. It operates under the Treatment Court Advocacy Center, a non-profit focused on helping people in treatment and problem-solving courts.

Bolock says the growth over the past several years has been instrumental to the organization’s mission.

“The growth that we have experienced over time. The number of people we have been able to help with their recovery is really just a blessing.”
