COVINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The Annual Fireman’s Picnic is underway in Covington Township, bringing several days of food, rides, games and entertainment to the community.
Brad Jones, fire chief of the Covington Township Volunteer Fire Department, said the picnic has been running for several decades and remains a major fundraiser for the department.
“I think this is as much for the community as it is for us. Obviously, it’s our biggest fundraiser, but it gets the community together, and you’ll see the turnout is fantastic. All the proceeds go to the fire company to help us with gear, training, equipment, those types of things. It’s not getting any cheaper to be a fire department, and this really helps us out. Like I said, it’s our largest fundraiser. Without this, we wouldn’t be able to operate,” Jones said.
The picnic continues through Saturday at 452 Daleville Highway. Ride-all-night wristbands are $27 through Friday and $32 Saturday. Golf ball drop tickets are $5 with a chance to win $1,000.
