A 19-acre industrial site dating to 1941 in the Minooka section of Scranton sold for $8.3 million.

Former owner 600 Sanders Scranton LLC in June sold 18.9 acres and a 210,000-square-foot building at 600 Sanders St. to Sanders Holding LLC, according to a recorded deed and Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate of Scranton, which represented the seller.

The industrial-zoned property is in an Interstate 81 corridor between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre “that affords high access to regional highways and provides strong labor supply in the nearby metro markets,” Hinerfeld said in an announcement.

Constructed in 1941, the building over the past 85 years has been been home to industrial manufacturing and warehouse users, including Western Electric, General Electric, Scranton Tube and American Can Co.

Fronting on Winfield Avenue at its intersection with Sanders Street and situated between Herbert and Kane streets, the property also was updated and expanded over time.

Most recently, Olympia Chimney Supply Inc. occupied the site for manufacturing and distribution of chimney parts.

The new owner, Sanders Holding LLC, will use the property as an expansion facility in the production and distribution of plastic injection molded products, Hinerfeld said.

Hinerfeld’s Griff Keefer and Colin Keefer represented the seller, while Jeff Hettinger of Keller Williams Platinum Realty represented the buyer, according to Hinerfeld’s announcement.

The change in ownership also reflects the evolution of industry and manufacturing at the site over decades.

According to Times-Tribune archives:

• In 1946, Western Electric sold the property to General Electric. GE’s electric sink and cabinet division made home dishwashers there.

• In 1952, General Electric switched production at the facility to electronic tubes and hoped to have nearly 500 employees working there. Dishwasher production was moved to a new facility in Louisville, Kentucky.

• In 1965, General Electric closed the Scranton plant and it was purchased by the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Co. and Lackawanna Industrial Fund Enterprises.
