WEST READING, Pa. – Live music, a pig roast, classic cars and plenty of people filled Penn Avenue Friday night for West Reading’s Second Friday celebration.
But that was just the start of a busy weekend across Berks County.
“We provide the activities… but you make the fun,” said Nick Price, Main Street executive director.
“You’ll run into friends, you’ll see people you haven’t seen, you’ll go into a store… and you’ll leave here saying, ‘That was a lot of fun.'”
On Saturday, the fun moves to Berks Summer Fest, which begins at 11:30 a.m. at its new home, the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading.
“Berks Summer Fest has been a staple of this area for the last couple years, but this is the first time that we’re actually having it at GoggleWorks,” said Levi Landis, executive director of GoggleWorks. “We’re so excited because Berks Arts does incredible work all year round, but this event is a way to celebrate summer in a really unique way.”
The free festival will feature live music, children’s activities, arts and crafts, food and family entertainment throughout the day.
“It’s a free event open to the community,” said Tish Davis, executive director of Berks Arts. “There’ll be face painting, balloons, arts and crafts, cornhole and nonstop music outside.”
Organizers expect hundreds of people to attend.
“We now have an outdoor stage… and we have a rain plan, so if there is bad weather, we’ll be inside celebrating the same way,” Landis said.
And if you’re still looking for more, Saturday is also the final day of the Berks County Fair, featuring rides, farm animals, food and much more.
