Union City transformed into a Viking village this weekend as the second annual Erie County Viking Festival wrapped up with a day full of activities celebrating Norse heritage.
Education was a major focus of the festival, giving visitors a chance to learn about Viking history, traditions and craftsmanship while also highlighting the cultural diversity that makes up America.
“The old Norse ways is just one part of the whole scheme of what makes America America so this is especially for the 250th birthday anniversary that we’ve been around our birthday this was a perfect show of one little aspect of what America of a whole it is and what America can also be-integration with all sorts of people.” Rich Konkol the Owner of Ironstone MEadery said.
The festival featured a variety of attractions, including living history demonstrations, vendors and traditional Viking activities. One of the highlights was a sword-craftsman demonstration, giving attendees an up-close look at the skill and artistry behind creating Viking-era weapons.
Visitors also had the opportunity to receive authentic Norse-inspired braided hairstyles, adding to the immersive experience.
By the end of the festival, attendees walked away with a better understanding of Norse culture and heritage — a tradition many were experiencing for the first time.
