READING, Pa. – Authorities are accusing a man of shooting and killing his brother in Reading Friday and injuring another man.
Amaury Rosado-Laboy, 43, no current address, is charged with first-and-second-degree murder, aggravated assault, burglary, and possession of an instrument of crime, according to court paperwork.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams and the Reading Police Department say Amaury Rosado-Laboy has been arrested and is in custody in Orange County, New York pending extradition.
City police were sent to the 500 block of Lancaster Avenue just after 2 a.m. Friday for the report of a shooting, authorities say in court documents.
Officers found a man who was shot in the chest; he died at the scene, city police said.
The Berks County Coroner identified the man as 45-year-old Alex B. Rosado-Laboy.
City police said Amaury Rosado-Laboy and Alex B. Rosado-Laboy were brothers.
Police also found another man who had been shot, court paperwork says. He was taken to a local hospital and was treated for his injuries.
A woman told police she was sleeping in the apartment’s rear bedroom when she woke up to hearing a gunshot and saw a flash as well as the shadow of a male running away, according to court documents.
The other man who had been shot came into her bedroom and told her Amaury Rosado-Laboy had just shot him and Alex B. Rosado-Laboy, court documents say.
Court paperwork says investigators noticed a window screen in a room in the apartment appeared to have been forced into the interior of apartment and bent.
Authorities said the door to the bedroom of the other man who had been shot appeared to have been forced open.
Video footage obtained from nearby homes showed a male going out of the front door of the apartment and fleeing west on Lancaster Avenue, according to court paperwork.
Court documents say additional video footage showed a male walking west in the north alley behind the 600 block of Lancaster Avenue shortly after 2 a.m.
A Berks County probation officer who saw this footage identified the man as Amaury Rosado-Laboy, who is currently on adult supervision with Berks County Adult Probation, according to court documents.
Authorities previously said the shooting had not been believed to be a random act.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The cause and manner of death are pending until the completion of the autopsy and the ongoing investigation.
