An 84-year-year-old Denver-area man died over the weekend in Reading Hospital of injuries suffered days earlier in a head-on crash in northern Lancaster County, state police said.

Robert W. McGuire was pronounced dead by a staff doctor Saturday, troopers from the Lancaster station said.

They provided this account:

The accident happened July 7 shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Route 897 at Lauschtown Road, just south of the bridge carrying the road over the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County.

McGuire, who was southbound on Route 897, tried to turn left onto Lauschtown but his car entered the path of a northbound SUV driven by Jennifer Peiffer, 39, of Ephrata, and the two vehicles collided head-on.

After impact, the SUV hit a motorcycle stopped at a stop sign on Lauschtown. The unidentified motorcyclist left the scene before first responders arrived.

Peiffer was also taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
