Pennsylvania election officials are responding to a federal government warning about the potential prosecution of non-citizens who are registered or able to vote in the state. In a statement, Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt said, “I take seriously the obligations under both federal and Pennsylvania law to ensure that only eligible voters have access to the ballot box.” He added, “The department refers instances of suspected voter fraud to our state and federal law enforcement partners.” Schmidt also said, “We have worked closely with the Department of Justice on matters that have led to criminal charges as recently as this year.”
