Cognetti’s experience, commitment belong in Congress
Editor: Trump’s financial disclosures illustrate starkly his contempt for the American people. From his blatant manipulation of the stock markets to his crypto profiteering to his $400 million Qatari jet we can see it for ourselves. Trump is proud of it.
Showing similar contempt for his constituents, U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan has made millions of dollars worth of stock trades during his term of office.
The voters of the 8th District have a unique opportunity to register disapproval of such behavior, not to mention the administration’s Big Ugly Bill, which has undermined Medicaid and SNAP benefits. The opportunity is the candidacy of Paige Cognetti, serving her third term as Scranton’s mayor.
Cognetti’s resume of public service is simply outstanding. She served on the Scranton School Board, a thankless task at best, working to bring financial stability and promoting enhanced educational programs for students.
A chance for statewide public service summoned her the office of the Auditor General, where her expertise and talents made immediate and lasting impacts.
By 2019, corruption overwhelmed Scranton city government. The mayor ended up in jail, a shameful episode. Paige was stung by the state of things in City Hall, launching a campaign for mayor as an Independent, pledging to clean up the mess. The Democratic organization opposed her, but her message was clear and was heard by the voters of Scranton. Her majorities in two subsequent elections in which she has run as a Democrat have been overwhelming.
Cognetti is also a wonderful mother to two beautiful children and has been able to balance her responsibilities as a mother with her duties as mayor. Her commitment to improving the quality of peoples’ lives is something we can trust and support without reservation.
I urge you to cast your vote for Paige Cognetti for Congress.
