A new Toastee Bagels shop should open in South Abington Twp. by late July or early August, following construction delays, owner Neil Patel said.
“We’re very close, but we’re not quite there,” he said.
Patel — who mentioned July 27 and Aug. 3 are potential soft opening dates for the eatery on Northern Boulevard at the former Rainbow Market site — intends to hold a hiring event in about two weeks.
He cited internal infrastructure issues for pushing the timeline back.
“The exterior of the building and the striping is all done,” Patel said. “We look good from the outside.”

Rainbow Land Co. LLC purchased two parcels at 621 Northern Blvd. on Dec. 5, 2019, for $745,000.
Mike Noto, president of Abington Development Group, the developer on the property, noted work continues to move forward.
“The last two sinks are being hooked up, the refrigerators are running, and they’re hooking up the bagel mixers and things like that,” Noto said.
Patel launched a Toastee Bagels location on Route 315 in Plains Twp. in January and previously announced plans to establish a spot in the Dallas/Shavertown area later this year or early next year.
The Mountain Top resident previously worked in the bagel business and returned to the kitchen following a move to Northeast Pennsylvania.
Patel opened his first store in 1996 in New Jersey before working in the corporate world about 25 years, including running restaurants for other companies.
Patel stressed Toastee Bagels epitomizes the essence of a family-run business as his wife and two older daughters, Zoe and Mercedes, prove critical to the operation.
In addition to about a dozen varieties of freshly made bagels — ranging from plain to blueberry and jalapeño cheddar — the business also features many housemade spread flavors, including strawberry, scallion, vegetable, lox and cinnamon raisin.
True to its Jersey-style moniker, Toastee Bagels also serves breakfast sandwiches, consisting of pork roll and other meats, cooked to order on a griddle, Patel said.

THEN: Neil Patel announced plans in February to open a Toastee Bagels location in South Abington Twp. by late May or early June.
NOW: Patel now anticipates opening the shop by late July or early August following construction delays.
