ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Mack Defense has new marching orders from the U.S. Army.
The army wants 115 more heavy duty dump trucks.
The order comes on the heels of another 91-truck ask just last month, when it was announced that Mack Defense was getting $47 million in funding from the 2026 Department of Defense Appropriations Act.
These recent orders are part of the new five-year contract awarded in June 2025 to Mack Defense for up to 450 trucks, with a total contract value of up to $221.8 million, Mack said in a news release.
The specific truck the U.S. Army wants is a M917A3 Heavy Dump Truck (HDT), which is based on the commercially available Mack Granite model. The HDT version comes with heavier-duty rear axles, all-wheel drive, increased suspension ride height and other ruggedized features, Mack said.

Mack Defense has built more than 625 of the HDTs to date.
Mack Defense is a subsidiary of Mack Trucks. Since 2021, it has operated a production line at the Mack Experience Center in Allentown. The facility is separate from Mack Truck’s production facility in Lower Macungie Township, known as its Lehigh Valley Operations, or LVO.
