It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of James Erie Strong, of Jefferson, GA, after a courageous battle with cancer on July 13, 2026. He was surrounded by his family.
Born in McConnellstown, PA on November 28, 1939, he was the son of James and Lillian Strong. Jim honorably served in the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Master Sergeant and served 20 years to this great Nation. He also worked for Flint River Textiles in Albany, GA as HR and safety manager. He had a deep love for his family. He proudly served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church, Putney, GA for many years before retiring and relocating to Jefferson, GA to be near his children and grandchildren. Jim was an active member of The American Legion and enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Maysville Baptist Church.
He loved to fish and host his family for a fish fry where he would reminisce about his family’s storied history.
He leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Betty Strong of 66 years, his children, Tom Strong of Jefferson, GA (wife Kim Strong), Michael Strong of Cumming, GA (wife Julie Strong), daughter-in-law Rita Strong, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son James Gary Strong and brother Donald Strong.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday July 19th, 2026, at Maysville Baptist Church, 8875 Hwy 82 Spur, Maysville, GA 30558. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., followed by the service at 4 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their favorite memories of Jim.
