A Scranton man is jailed after police say he looked inside a 17-year-old’s bedroom window and then broke into the family’s house.
The 17-year-old and her brother Noel Rivera visited the police on July 4 and told officers a man they recognized as Anthony Elias Ramirez, of 201 Pittston Avenue, was acting suspiciously for about six months.
In February, the teenager told her family she thought someone was trying to open her bedroom window. She opened her curtain and saw a man she recognized as Ramirez standing outside the family residence on Pittston Ave., according to a criminal complaint.
Following the incident, the family installed a camera and spotted Ramirez “poking around” outside their residence, police said.
At about 2 a.m. on July 4, the 17-year-old heard someone near her bedroom. A check of the security camera, showed Ramirez entering the residence at about 1:45 a.m.
Officers noted there were seven people asleep in the house at the time.
Then on July 9, Noel Rivera called police to report another attempted burglary. He showed officers a video of Ramirez walking onto the porch, opening the screen door and trying the handle at about 3 a.m., according to the complaint.
Again on July 10, Noel Rivera contacted police for a third time. He told officers had had received a security alert from his surveillance system that someone was on the front porch.
The video showed showed Ramirez walking onto the porch, opening the screen door and looking into the entry door window, before leaving.
Rivera told officers Ramirez had been the one stalking his family.
During an interview at the police station, the 17-year-old recounted texting her mom at one point, saying, ”Somebody is going to get killed in this house and nobody will notice.”
Ramirez is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, stalking and loitering.
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on July 20 before District Judge Joanne Corbett.
